Whipsnade Zoo

Whipsnade Zoo

ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is one of Europe's largest wildlife conservation parks. Set in 600 acres of beautiful parkland on the Chiltern Hills, the zoo is home to more than 2,500 animals, many of which are endangered in the wild. It is run by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) - an international scientific, conservation and educational charity whose key role is the conservation of animals and their habitats. ZSL is actively involved in field conservation in over 50 countries worldwide.

Did you know?

Most poisonous

There are lots of contenders here – possibly the pretty red and blue rove beetle Paederus – very, very tiny amounts of its poison have been used to cure chronic ulceration in people. Ladybirds are pretty poisonous (and pretty) and can bleed foul-tasting poisonous brightly coloured blood from their knees.
