Insect Week returns in 2022
University of Oxford Botanic Garden
The University of Oxford Botanic Garden is the oldest botanic garden in Great Britain. It holds a national reference collection of 7,000 different plant types, making it the most compact, yet diverse, collection of plants in the world. Plants are grown for researchers at the University and elsewhere, to support our teaching programmes and as part of plant conservation projects. Over 6,500 school children visit each year as part of our Schools Education Programme, and particularly love the Insectivorous House, where they can meet our carnivorous plants! We are committed to implementing the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation and work with other botanic gardens globally, to ensure that the world’s biological diversity is maintained.
Some moths evade bat echolocation by falling fast, ‘shouting’ back, sound warnings of poison and mimicking each other.
